WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program benefits will not be sent out to Kansans next month due to the government shutdown, state officials said late Friday.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture instructed states not to issue November SNAP benefits, according to a news release from the Kansas Department for Children and Families.
"In Kansas, this means no new SNAP food assistance benefits will be added to EBT cards after Oct. 31, 2025, until federal funding is available," the state agency said in a news release.
Gov. Laura Kelly and 25 states sued the USDA to compel the use of emergency funds. A court has ordered the USDA to develop a SNAP funding plan by Nov. 3.
