Manitoba's chief medical examiner has called for separate inquests into the deaths of two men.

Dr. John Younes has directed probes into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Jonathon Herntier, 38, and Myles Clearsky, 24, three years ago.

Herntier died after getting shot multiple times during an altercation with Winnipeg police on Dec. 3, 2022.

An Independent Investigation Unit report from 2023 said an officer shot the man four times after Herntier tried to avoid arrest by reversing his vehicle into city police.

Herntier reportedly reached out for a gun before he was shot. The police watchdog ruled the use of force was justified.
