Cold mornings and icy walks to school can hit hard especially for kids without a warm coat.
Friday, the Salvation Army kicked off its annual Coats for Kids drive across Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler and Ohio counties giving children from birth through 12th grade a free winter coat, and a chance to pick the one they like.
Just one more thing that they don't have to worry about this time of year. We always try to do our coat for kids drive early so that that way the kid is going into the winter months warm."
Here's how it works: A child, or a family, brings an ID, signs for the coat, tries it on, picks one they want and takes it home that day.
It's simple, and immediate.
The program mirrors the national effort of the Salvation Army to make sure children stay warm and safe through the winter.
