Nine people facing six charges related to violent acts that occurred during June’s demonstrations organized by activist Sylvester Namiwa have been re-arrested in Lilongwe.

The suspects were taken into custody on Friday soon after completing bail formalities at the Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court in the city.

On Thursday, the same court had granted them bail but allowed them to finalize the paperwork a day later since some offices were closed at the time the ruling was made.

According to defense lawyer Christopher Kambalame, authorities are also considering additional charges against the group linked to violent incidents in Mbowe, Lilongwe, and Mponela in Dowa District.

The court has since adjourned the current case to November 18, 2025.
