It was far from Bozeman High’s cleanest game, but touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams in the span of 61 seconds in the first quarter covered up many of the later blemishes.
The Hawks beat Missoula Hellgate by 26 points in Week 1 of the season at Van Winkle Stadium and, funnily enough, met again to open the Class AA playoffs on Friday back in the same location. Eastern AA No. 4 seed Bozeman won the rematch with the West No. 5 seed Knights 38-7, but it was in some ways not the playoff opener the Hawks were looking for.
The Hawks had some uncharacteristic penalties, including a trio of unsportsmanlike conduct flags, that prevented the winning margin from being even more lopsided and their offense from being more efficient. Bozeman was penalized seven times for 67 yards. Adding
