New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to develop new cargo drones to improve transportation and logistics in remote and difficult-to-reach areas such as the Lakshadweep islands. The project aims to use unmanned aerial systems capable of carrying heavy loads over long distances, reducing the dependence on helicopters and traditional transport methods.

According to recent reports, the proposed drones are expected to carry up to 500 kilograms of cargo and cover distances of nearly 500 kilometers with an endurance of around five hours. These drones are expected to help the Air Force transport essential goods, equipment, and medical supplies to regions where weather and geography make regular transport difficult.
