REDDING, Calif. - The Shasta County District Attorney's Office says that Juan Ramon Avila was arraigned on Friday on charges stemming from a violent attack on a woman.
Authorities said that during the domestic violence incident, Avila punched and compressed the victim's spine, which resulted in the the victim becoming paralyzed from the neck down.
The District Attorney's Office says that Avila also tortured the victim for nearly ten minutes before calling emergency services.
Avilia was taken into custody and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of attempted murder, torture, mayhem, battery with serious bodily injury, false imprisonment by violence, and corporal injury to a spouse, cohabitant, or child's parent.
