Air pollution continues to remain Delhi's deadliest health threat , claiming more lives than high blood pressure, diabetes, or obesity, according to an analysis by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). In 2023, ambient particulate matter pollution was linked to 17,188 deaths, accounting for 15% of all fatalities.

Thus, one out of every seven deaths in the national capital in 2023 was linked to toxic air. Deaths linked to pollution rose from 15,786 in 2018 to 17,188 in 2023. It highlights how severely air quality continues to aect the health and longevity of Delhi's residents.

TOXIC AIR: THE SILENT KILLER

In fact, Delhi has topped the list of the world's most polluted capital for seven consecutive years, from 2018 to 2024, according to Swiss firm IQAir.
