The flooding came as around 15 inches of rain dropped in Titusville and significant downpours soaked other parts of North and Central Brevard, too.

The Oct. 26 storm, with a flood watch through the next night, was destructive and broad in its scope. vehicles were stranded in flooded streets and parts of roads were washed away by the heavy rain which continued into Oct. 27.

But in the midst of the damage, and as cleanup efforts began the day after the storm, FLORIDA TODAY's Malcolm Denemark snagged this Photo of the Week: that of a determined child riding his bicycle on a water-filled Titusville street, helmet on his head and eyes trained on the road ahead as he navigated his course.

It was, Denemark said, a sign of normalcy in at an anything-but-normal time — sweet and hopeful.
