MONTRÉAL — Public transit services in Montreal are completely suspended today due to a strike involving approximately 4,500 bus drivers, metro operators, and other station employees. This marks the first strike by the union in 38 years.

The strike comes at a particularly disruptive time, coinciding with several major sporting events. Fans attending the Montreal Alouettes playoff game this afternoon, as well as those going to the Laval Rocket and Montreal Canadiens games later in the evening, typically rely on public transit for transportation.

Despite the strike, paratransit services are expected to remain operational throughout the day. Additionally, another union representing maintenance workers will also be on strike for most of November. However, bus and metro services will continue to operate during rush hours and late evenings.

The union representing the drivers has expressed intentions to conduct a full weekend strike later this month, which could further impact transit services.

This situation is evolving, and commuters are advised to seek alternative transportation options as the strike continues.
