All the eyes in Texas will be on whether Arch Manning will play in Week 10.
The highly-publicized quarterback suffered an injury in Texas' overtime win over Mississippi State in Week 9, putting his status in doubt for the Saturday, Nov. 1 home contest against No. 11 Vanderbilt.
The Longhorns star has had an up-and-down season with some rough patches, but he had one of his best performances prior to his injury against the Bulldogs, throwing for a career-high 346 yards and two touchdowns to lead the comeback.
Will Manning suit up against the Commodores? Here's what to know about Manning's status for Texas:
Is Arch Manning playing?
Manning will be playing Nov. 1, as he was left off the final injury report.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said on Monday, Oct. 27 Manning was in concussion protocol and missed practice. However, two days later, Sarkisian revealed during the SEC teleconference Manning practiced earlier that day.
Manning had to clear concussion protocol first in order to be available to play. Even if Manning feels good, he couldn't have played if he didn't clear concussion protocol.
What happened to Arch Manning?
After leading a 17-point fourth quarter comeback to force overtime against Mississippi State, Manning was injured on the first play of the extra period.
He scrambled for a 13-yard gain, but was hit by a pair of Bulldog defenders as he tried to reach for extra yards. Manning was down on the field for several minutes as team personnel attended to him before he was taken to the medical tent.
Manning didn't return to the game, as Texas scored a touchdown to plays later. The Longhorns then shut down Mississippi State on its first drive of overtime to secure the 45-38 victory.
Who is Texas backup QB?
If Manning is unable to play, Matthew Caldwell will get the start for the Longhorns.
A 6-foot-4 senior from Auburn, Alabama, Caldwell is in his first season at Texas after spending time at Jacksonville State, Gardner-Webb and Troy. He came in when Manning was injured, and actually threw the game-winning touchdown, hitting Emmett Mosley in the end zone two plays after Manning left.
A dual threat option, Caldwell has mostly come in this season in mop up duty. In five games, he's 8-for-11 with 86 yards and a touchdown, along with 64 rushing yards on two carries.
