A Glasgow performing arts teacher has been recognised with a national award for inspiring students — all while battling breast cancer .
Mairead Clayton was among 16 winners picked from 1,200 teachers across the UK. The Academy Assistant at The Pauline Quirke Academy, Glasgow, was recognised by parents and students for her "empathy, positivity, and unwavering energy" — all while undergoing treatment for cancer.
Despite undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy, Mairead continued to support her students, recording video messages of support for their West End performance, creating props from home, and staying in touch with the teaching team every week.
