Thousands gathered in Edinburgh on Friday night for the annual Samhuinn Fire Festival.

Around 4700 people were in Holyrood Park on October 31 for the event, produced by Beltane Fire Society. Revellers enjoyed drumming, dance, fire theatre and more.

The event 'brings to life the struggle between summer and winter'. Attendees pushed through some initial showers for an 'evening of fire, celebration and passion'.

Samhuinn celebrates the beginning of winter, with modern performance including acrobats and other 'mysterious characters'.

A spokesperson for the event said: "At the heart of the celebration stood the Cailleach, the divine Crone, guiding audiences through reflection and transformation.
