A teenager accused of fatally shooting his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend in June 2023 will undergo a mental evaluation after his trial was again postponed Friday.
Jovanni Sirio-Cardona, 19, is now set to again appear Nov. 20 in Weld County District Court for a status conference to discuss a motion to be filed by his defense regarding the parameters of that evaluation.
Friday’s hearing was the third pretrial readiness conference for Sirio-Cardona ahead of his trial, which had been scheduled to start Monday, Nov. 3.
Last Monday, at the second conference, District Judge Vincente Vigil addressed a motion filed by the prosecution to disallow testimony from a mental health expert who had not personally evaluated Sirio-Cardona.
