SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Leaders at United Way’s 211 service expect an increase in the number of phone calls and requests once SNAP benefits end on Saturday, Nov. 1.
211 is a resource that people can call if they need help with food, shelter, or utility assistance.
The big demand now is getting people access to food banks and food pantries.
Colleen Neill is the 211 Community Partnerships Coordinator for Southwest Missouri.
She said they’re starting to see an increase in calls.
They have been compiling a list of mobile food pantries and food pantries offering additional hours, which will be shared with people who use the 211 service.
Neill said even when SNAP benefits resume - there will still be lingering effects for people.
