ELLSWORTH -- A city and a food pantry are teaming up to collect donations during the lapse in Maine's SNAP benefits.
Donation drop-off locations have been set up across the city of Ellsworth. Those locations are the Ellsworth Public Library, Union River Center for Innovation, Ellsworth City Hall, Friends & Family Market, Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, and Healthy Acadia.
Their most needed items, which must be unopened and unexpired, are canned soups, beans, vegetables, fruit, peanut butter, jam/jelly, applesauce, baking supplies (oil, flour, mixes), dry cereal and granola bars, infant formula and baby food.
Perishable donations should be brought directly to the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry in Ellsworth.
"It's a wonderful thing that the city has been proactive like this," said Jo Cooper,
