BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Bangor City Council will hold a special meeting Monday night to vote on whether to censure a council member for a gesture made at the October 27 meeting.
Councilor Joseph Leonard appeared to throw a pen at someone in the room while making an obscene gesture and swearing at them.
Leonard’s reaction seemed to be in response to a Zoom caller who used the public comment period to speak in support of ICE while using expletives and white nationalist language.
If the measure passes, it will be the third time the Council has censured Leonard.
At Monday’s meeting, City Council will also vote on a resolve to condemn hate speech in all forms including prejudice, racism, xenophobia, gender discrimination, and all forms of intolerance.
