Burning season starts Saturday in Jefferson City.
People in the city limits are allowed to burn yard waste, such as small sticks, grass clippings and leaves, from sunrise to sunset on property they own from Nov. 1 through March 1 each year, according to a Jefferson City Fire Department news release.
People must supervise fires at all times and have a way to put out the fire readily available at all times, the news release said.
Fires must be put out by sunset; violations will result in a citation and fine, the release said. Residents are asked to be considerate of their neighbors, especially on warm weather days when people might have their windows open.
Jefferson City residents can also drop off yard waste at 708 Ellis Blvd. as an alternative to burning.
