Northwest Allen County Schools is selling you a bill of goods.
Their plea to voters is to raise $96 million in property taxes, bridging a budget shortfall and increasing pay for teachers.
What they have not made clear to taxpayers and parents of students is that NACS currently transfers 15% out of its education fund, intended to pay teacher salaries, into operations. So that money to give teachers a raise currently exists within NACS coffers, but district leadership has chosen not to.
