SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A Springfield woman who recently bought her dream home discovered it was listed on the sex offender registry, preventing trick-or-treaters from visiting on Halloween.
Peggy Haggerty purchased her house a few months ago without knowing about its past. The home was previously occupied by registered sex offender Charles Henry Bishop, who failed to update his address after moving, leaving Haggerty’s new residence on the do-not-trick-or-treat list.
“I like to tell everybody that this house was a gift from God,” Haggerty said. The home provides her space to pursue her cross-stitch crafting.
Haggerty said she would not have recognized Bishop if she encountered him on the street.
