NEWARK - A $750,000 grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority Board was awarded to Invest Newark for film and media industry training, boosting skills for Newarkers seeking jobs in production.
This funding comes at a critical time for Newark’s goal to become a kind of Hollywood East, as the Lionsgate Studios facility is scheduled to break ground in the city’s South Ward in January.
“I can only imagine that the opening of Lionsgate will only increase the opportunities available for our residents,” said Desireè Hadley, director of the Newark Office of Film and Television. “The two will go hand in hand, the grant money that we receive, which will help to train our residents, along with the opening of Lionsgate in January.”
