After spending 37 days in doggie jail, the wayward Skynyrd will get out with his life. Skynyrd, who was found running at large in September after being picked up by animal control several times about a year ago, had been sentenced to die by City Judge Jim Edwards. But Edwards signed an order allowing the two-and-a-half-year-old Boxer-Labrador to be adopted by an old school chum of Mark and Starla Shelly, Allan Brown, who is scheduled to adopt Skynyrd this morning, Starla said. Several people wrote letters to the editor decrying Skynyrd’s death sentence, and the Shellys’ children and others started petitions to protest Edwards’s order to destroy him.
