STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A single-car crash this morning has knocked down a utility pole on Richmond Road, causing traffic chaos on a busy stretch of the New Dorp street, according to initial reports.
Police were on site at 10 a.m., and no driver was visible in the vehicle, which had airbags deployed, according to a reporter at the scene.
Traffic diversion was affecting several New Dorp residential streets, including Bryant, Otis and Bancroft avenues, according to initial reports.
The wires were live as of 10 a.m. and Con Edison was on the way, according to an initial report from the scene.
The grey Nissan sedan appeared to have struck the pole, sparing it from hitting the Moravian Cemetery stone wall.
This initial report will be updated as information becomes available.
