Even though the Blue Jays and L.A. Dodgers are contesting a tightly fought, incredibly competitive World Series, there are some things that are bigger than baseball.

Last night, eagle eyed viewers noticed that members of the Jays bullpen had written “51” on their caps, which is believed to a tribute to Alex Vesia, the Dodgers reliever who wears that number.

Vesia is away from the team, and on October 23rd, the team sent out this statement: “It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter. The entire Dodger organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”
