RANKIN COUNTY — A Rankin County man’s condition is stable after he allegedly shot himself during a standoff in a cemetery on Halloween.
Deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department responded Friday evening to a report of a suicidal male at a residence off North Shore Parkway.
The department said deputies were initially unable to locate the man. Further investigation revealed that he had contacted friends threatening to take his own life with a firearm.
Deputies later located the subject’s vehicle at the Lakeland Place Memorial Cemetery on Lakeland Drive. When deputies attempted to check on the man, they confirmed he was armed, and a standoff ensued.
