Kane, Lake and McHenry counties have been testing an on-demand "dial-a-ride" program. It offers regularly scheduled rides, particularly for people who are seniors, have a disability or don't drive.
The service is a lifeline for residents, who say it fills an important gap in public transit. However, the program has its limitations, with lawmakers divided over funding for the fledgling effort.
