For more than 30 years, the Arts Commission has been supporting Toledo youth through its Young Artists at Work (YAAW) program.
Area teens are offered paid summer apprenticeships where they can create both public and salable art, and the program is intended to improve their skills both creatively and professionally. Applications for the 2026 session are open now through March 13. More information can be found at theartscommission.org.
To support this cause, Tim Valko and Jim Moore started Appetite for the Arts cooking classes late last year to benefit YAAW while simultaneously benefiting guests’ own kitchen skills, too. This year’s bi-monthly classes started in January, with the last session scheduled for Nov. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at WS Design, 901 Jefferson Ave. Proceeds from the class
