NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- The start of November marks the beginning of Día de Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, around the world.

The Mexican holiday honors the memory of lost loved ones with food, music, and offerings at adorned altars known as ofrendas. In observation of the holiday, family celebrations will take over New York City landmarks with live music, dance performances and more.

Día de Muertos at Green-Wood Cemetery

Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Families are invited to Brooklyn's most historic cemetery for its annual Día de Muertos Family Celebration. The afternoon will be filled with live performances, crafts, family activities, and food from local vendors.

Visitors will be able to contribute their personal offerings to the large-scale community altar called Repos
