NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Federal Magistrate Judge Donna Phillips heard arguments from prosecutors and former New Orleans Police officer Jeffrey Vappie's attorney, Harry Rosenberg, regarding a request to allow him to have contact with Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Both were indicted for misusing city funds in a conspiracy to hide their alleged romantic relationship.

On Thursday, Oct. 30, Cantrell's attorney, Eddie Castaing, also filed a motion asking the judge to allow unsupervised contact with Vappie. Castaing was present for today's hearing.

"If the judge denies it, what's the next step?" Ashley Hamilton asked.

"Um. Well, let's see what happens," Castaing said.
