The Weld RE-9 School District now owns a 145-acre property in Pierce that could one day give the district room to grow.
Weld RE-9 Superintendent Andy Lavier stressed in an interview, however, that the district has no specific plan for the site at this time.
“Our district just had the insight to plan ahead. We don’t need it right now,” he said.
The Fort Collins-Loveland Water District sold the Alkire Farm property, which is about 20 miles east of Fort Collins, to the school district for $942,000 — the same price the water district paid for it.
The current generation of the Alkire Farm family had reached retirement age and did not have anyone interested in taking over the farm, according to Chris Pletcher, Fort Collins-Loveland Water District general manager.
