The moment an alleged thief broke into a family car and made off with a small amount of cash has been captured on a doorbell camera.

In an image shared with Edinburgh Live, a late night hooded prowler was captured entering the vehicle which the owner claimed was locked.

They can be seen snooping around the car which was parked in front of a property in the Alemoor area of Restalrig at 12.46am on Saturday November 1.

It is alleged the individual was spotted on neighbours cameras snooping around cars in the residential scheme for 'over an hour.'

The backpack wearing individual is understood to have taken loose change as well as a trolley token from the car.
