New York City FC looks to complete the upset on Saturday, as they hope to eliminate Charlotte FC from the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs on home soil.

New York might not have entered the postseason as huge underdogs compared to Charlotte, but it was not going to be an easy task to open the club’s first-round series on the road. Yet, NYCFC hung with their opponent in the series opener on Tuesday night. In a tightly-contested matchup, a goal from Alonso Martinez in the 34th minute ended up being the only mark on the scoreboard, as NYC became the first lower seed in these playoffs to win a match.
This is the third season in a row that Charlotte has made it to the postseason. After finishing fifth last season, the young franchise registered 59 point
