A man convicted of shooting at officers during a search warrant at his Benton County home has been sentenced to 76 years in prison.

On Friday, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced that Karl Holmberg, 66, had been sentenced to 918 months after he opened fire at task force officers who knocked on his door and announced a search warrant in Glendorado Township on Oct. 12, 2023.

Five officers suffered gunshot wounds in the incident, with two others struck in their ballistic vests.

Ellison’s office led the prosecution against Holmberg at trial, which led to his conviction on seven counts of attempted first-degree murder and seven counts of first-degree assault of a police officer. Holmberg was also convicted of a controlled substance crime.
