ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new mural is being painted in downtown Rochester by a local artist, honoring long-time local activist and community leader Midge Thomas, who just turned 99 this September.

The mural is being created by Downtown ROCs, a nonprofit that is dedicated to cleaning up and beautifying downtown Rochester. They are collaborating with RocGrowth to commission this work.

The mural will be on the exterior wall of Abilene Bar and Lounge, located at 153 Liberty Pole Way. Titled "Midge," it will depict two outstretched hands connecting over a background of flowers.

“Commissioning a mural that both adds beauty to downtown and honors Midge’s legacy has been a long-time goal of ours, and we’re thrilled it’s finally happening,” said Mike Gilbert, Executive Director of Downtown ROC
