Bhubaneswar: An FIR was registered against Dambaru Hantal, the personal security officer (PSO) of Koraput MLA Raghuram Machha, after a serious gun-firing incident in bypoll-bound Nuapada, in Odisha.

Hantal allegedly fired from his service pistol at a hotel in Komna block, in Nuapada district, on Friday night. He was in an inebriated state when he opened fire, according to reports. Luckily, no one was injured in the firing. ADVERTISEMENT

Hantal has been suspended by the Superintendent of Police, Koraput, his reporting authority.

His service pistol has been seized, police said. Further investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, Congress gheraoed the police station, and demanded strong action against the PSO.
