The uncertainty over SNAP assistance as the federal government shutdown continues has pushed to take action.

Starting Saturday, the market will begin helping families who may lose access to SNAP benefits, a move leaders say is meant to “pay it forward” and help bridge the gap.

—Donations from the community are helping launch the effort. It’s not the first time the Farmers Market has stepped up, in fact, it was the back in 2010.

The market also runs an incentive called , which matches SNAP dollars

“We began a double program called Double Up Oklahoma. This program doubles SNAP benefits up to $20 per market day,” Rosson said. “A lot of folks come to us weekly to extend their food budgets.”
