Recently-elected South Korean President Lee Jae Myung hosted Xi Jinping for their first meeting on Saturday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. On the last day of the summit, the Chinese President visited South Korea after more than a decade.
Lee hosted Xi at a state summit and dinner after an Asia-Pacific leaders’ forum in the South Korean city of Gyeongju.
During the talks, Lee sought Jinping’s help in efforts to resume talks with nuclear-armed neighbour North Korea.
As per a report by Reuters, South Korea’s President referred to recent high-level exchanges between China and North Korea and said, “I am very positive about the situation in which conditions for engagement with North Korea are being formed."
