ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ala. (TRIBUNE) — The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, crews will close U.S. 231 between State Route 174 and milepost 222, just north of Pell City, to complete a sinkhole repair project.

The closure is expected to last through Tuesday, Nov. 4, weather permitting. During the repair, northbound motorists are advised to use SR-174 to U.S. 411, then back to U.S. 231, with the reverse detour recommended for southbound traffic.

ALDOT said the closure follows the discovery of a sinkhole along the roadway on July 25, 2025, which prompted a geotechnical study to design a long-term fix.
