Braidwood's most coveted property is on the market after two decades, allowing locals a rare look inside without paying the fee to stay.

Known as Doncaster House, the palatial home at 1 Park Lane is available for a cool $4.25 million. It last sold for $2.1 million in 2006, according to official records.

The eight-bedroom, eight-bathroom house, complete with pine floors, elaborate timber panelling and a grand staircase, is one of the most coveted places to stay in Braidwood.

The stunning 4000 square-metre property is as history-rich as it is nice to look at. First bought as a convent in 1909, the property went on to house boarders and a school run by the Catholic church. A Gothic chapel, now used for weddings, remains on site as a memory of the time.
