STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — A woman is dead and a man remains hospitalized following a shooting Friday night in what police are calling an isolated incident involving family members.

According to a press release, Strongsville police responded to a home on Rock Creek Circle at 8:06 p.m. on Oct. 31 after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 49-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a man holding a handgun.

Police said the man, identified as 74-year-old Gene Tomcho of North Ridgeville, turned the weapon on himself and fired after officers ordered him to drop it.

Both individuals were treated at the scene by Strongsville Fire-Medics and transported to Metro General Hospital. The woman later died from her injuries. Tomcho remains hospitalized.
