Maya Edwards was hard at work Saturday afternoon, helping to put a smile on the face of a Canadian veteran.

The three-year-old from Owen Sound glued paper hearts inside a Valentine’s Day card at the Owen Sound and North Grey Public Union Library on the opening day of the Valentines for Veterans initiative.

From Nov. 1 to Nov. 10, supplies to make handmade valentines will be available upstairs at The Library in the Youth Services area.

Supplies include the cards, pre-cut paper hearts, glue sticks, and crayons.

After Nov. 10, Katie McLeish, a Youth Services Specialist at The Library, will mail the completed cards to Veterans Affairs Canada, where they will then be distributed to Canadian veterans in long-term care facilities for Valentine’s Day 2026.
