Money for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits — commonly referred to as food stamps — expired Nov. 1 as a result of the ongoing government shutdown.
People in line to receive food from at the the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Ozanam Center at 93 Kent Street in Akron talked about how the SNAP outage is affecting them.
The Ozanam Center is open each Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. People can get food from the center once a month, and receive clothing once a week.
Though he's in need himself, Eric Heaton still finds ways to help others.
Having received a three-day supply of food Nov. 1 from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Ozanam Center at 93 Kent St. in Akron, Heaton was going home to get some clothes he no longer wears to donate them to the center,
