MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Authorities identified a man accused of shooting at police in Mesa earlier this week and released an update on an officer who was injured in the incident.
Just before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Mesa Police first responded to a trespassing call near Ray and Sossaman roads when a security guard reported that a man was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot and would not leave when asked.
That man, now identified as 34-year-old Cameron Oberlin, reportedly got combative with officers and drove away. Police pursued and used a Grappler device to stop his car, but he reportedly kept his foot on the accelerator, trying to get away.
After less-lethal weapons didn’t work, a short standoff ensued, and investigators say Oberlin then fired shots at police from inside his vehicl
