Eulo in south-west Queensland is a far cry from the rugged coastline of Tasmania, but that did not stop Adam and Prue Brancher from jumping into the outback headfirst.

Despite no experience in hospitality, the couple traded their lives as marine engineers to buy the Eulo Queen Hotel, about 850 kilometres west of Brisbane.

Overcoming floodwaters and a steep learning curve, they say their instant love for the pub has become a passion for its patrons.

'Find a purpose'

In 2023, the Branchers sold the seaweed farm and marine engineering business they ran near Snug, about 30 kilometres south of Hobart.

Adam kept working for the new owners, but by December 2024, they were ready for a change.

"I said to Prue, 'Let's buy a camper van and go around and explore Australia,'" Adam said.
