BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A local veteran whose home was no longer accessible to him will soon move into a new home that exceeds ADA standards and is equipped with over 40 adaptations.
Army SPC Christopher Brooks, who was severely injured while serving in Iraq, said his new home from Home For Our Troops will help him regain independence.
"On my bad days, I have to use a wheelchair," Brooks said. "So, with the homes, the open floorplan, the wider hallways, the wider doorways, I'll be able to get around in my chair and still function as if I wasn't having a bad day. I'll be able to be 100% self-sufficient and self-reliant. Honestly, that in itself, that alone, is what is going to benefit me the most."
Brooks said his new home will also benefit his family, especially in the future.
