ATTLEBORO — Coming off a first-round exit in each of the last four Div. 1 state tournaments, the goal all year for the Attleboro field hockey team was to make the tournament and advance to — at least — the Round of 16.
Saturday morning, behind a two-goal second half and a lockdown defensive performance throughout, the 13th-seeded Bombardiers (14-4-1) pulled it off with a 2-0 Div. 1 first-round win over No. 20 Beverly.
Attleboro hadn’t advanced this far in the tournament since at least 2010. It draws No. 4 Lincoln-Sudbury on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in search of the state quarterfinals.
Beverly ends its season at 11-6-2.
