PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Peoria Humane Society celebrated the special connection between people and their pets Saturday morning during its 30th annual “Blessing of the Animals.”
The event also marks the start of Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, honoring the staff and volunteers who care for thousands of animals each year through Peoria County Animal Protection Services.
Pastor Mary Beenen from Grace and Peace Lutheran Church led the blessing, offering prayers for both community pets and shelter animals waiting for their forever homes.
Kitty Yanko, Executive Director of the Peoria Humane Society, said events like this highlight the important role animals play in people’s lives and the comfort they bring.
