It’s about the same length as a soccer field. It weighs more than six fully loaded Boeing 737s. And, beginning Sunday night, it will begin a week-long journey from Edmonton to the Fort McMurray area.

What is it? A de-methanizer pressure vessel that’s used in the processing of natural gas. And it’s big. Way too big to be shipped via traditional truck or train. It’s 104 metres long and weighs 529,000 kilograms. That’s a little more than 583 tons, for those of us who still don’t like metric to measure weight. From above, it looks like a rocket for SpaceX.

It’s so big, it needs to be placed on trailers that have a total of 352 wheels.

On Sunday night, this load will begin its journey from Thermo Design Engineering in south Edmonton and take the following route:
