A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration on Friday to use the SNAP program’s allocated emergency money to fund the program during the government shutdown.

That lawsuit was brought against the government by New Haven and seven other municipalities, along with multiple organizations.

“Because we were willing to put ourselves out there and really push for defending our community, this judge’s ruling potentially impacts the entire nation,” said Mayor Justin Elicker.

Elicker says the city is closely watching how the Trump administration responds to the ruling, which could determine whether more than $70 million in SNAP funds reach Connecticut residents in November.
