It was spun as a victory lap – the Queensland Health Minister fronting the media declaring the Crisafulli Government had delivered on a key election promise.

At Logan Hospital on a Sunday last month, Tim Nicholls announced the government had "stabilised" the elective surgery waiting list.

And they did it two months ahead of schedule.

"Today I can announce that we have delivered on that promise," Mr Nicholls said on October 19.

Every month, Queensland Health publishes performance data – from elective surgery waiting times to ambulance ramping.

The latest numbers – those for August – showed 63,128 Queenslanders were on the wait list for planned surgery.

That’s 418 fewer patients waiting for elective surgery than last August under Labor – or a 0.7 per cent drop.
